Our Process

Every journey begins with a conversation. Our projects start by understanding your goals, aspirations, and the realities of your site. From there, we provide clear, authentic advice on what’s achievable, removing the guesswork from the process. Whether you have a well-defined vision or don’t know where to begin, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Each project begins with essential groundwork. We engage trusted consultants to provide quotes for your review and approval, tailored to the specific requirements of your site and project. These may include land surveyors for existing conditions, feature and re-establishment surveys, arborists and town planning consultants.

Working from your design brief, we then develop detailed concept designs, including floor plans and 3D perspectives, to help you clearly visualize how your project will look, function, and feel.

This stage is collaborative and flexible and is critical to the success of the project. We encourage you to take the time to review the concepts and provide feedback for refinement, ensuring each aspect of the project is understood and the design brief is met. Significant changes are best made at this stage, as later adjustments can become more complex, costly and may impact town planning approvals.

Some projects require town planning approval due to factors such as lot size, zoning, or planning overlays. Where this applies, we prepare all required town planning drawings and manage the entire application process on your behalf.

We engage reputable consultants who liaise directly with council to ensure your application is well-considered and has the best possible chance of success.

As part of this process, we respond to council Requests for Further Information (RFIs) as required. This may involve engaging additional consultants, for which we will always provide trusted consultant fee proposals for your review and approval. These may include Sustainable Design Assessments (SDAs), landscape plans, traffic and waste management reports among others. Requirements vary from project to project and depend on the type and scale of the project.

Once the concept designs are finalized and, where required, a planning permit has been obtained, we prepare comprehensive working drawings for construction.

These typically include:

  • Site, Setout and Slab/Subfloor Plans
  • Detailed Floor and Roof Plans
  • Sections and Elevations
  • Framing, Lighting and Wall Type Plans
  • Door and Window Schedules
  • Specifications for External Materials and Finishes
  • Project Specific Construction Details

In addition to our documentation, we engage further trusted consultants at this stage to provide fee proposals for your review and approval. These may include geotechnical engineers (soil reports), civil, structural and hydraulic engineers, energy assessors, and other specialists as required.

Together, these documents ensure your builder has the information needed to provide an accurate construction quote and deliver a smooth, well-coordinated finished product.

Construction drawings document the core elements of a building, but they can often overlook the finer details that truly personalize a home.

To address this, we offer interior design services that complement the architecture of the project. These can be delivered collaboratively with you, in partnership with a trusted external consultant, or as a fully integrated service managed by our studio.

Interior design documentation may include, but is not limited to:

  • Kitchens
  • Bathrooms
  • Joinery
  • Bedrooms
  • Fixtures and fittings schedules
  • Internal finishes schedules

While some clients choose to resolve interior selections independently or directly with their builder during tendering or construction, our experience shows that a clearly defined and well-documented interior design significantly reduces stress throughout the build. When developed alongside the construction documentation, detailed interior plans help avoid common on-site issues, improve cost certainty, and minimize the risk of budget overruns.

If you haven’t selected a builder before engaging us, or if you’d like to obtain quotes from multiple builders, we can manage the tendering process on your behalf—or alongside you. This includes reviewing builder bids and quotations, as well as undertaking cost management exercises to ensure your project can be delivered within your required budget.

We manage the building permit process on your behalf, preparing all necessary documentation and liaising directly with the registered building surveyor (RBS), including responding to any requests for further information.

Our experience ensures your plans comply with building regulations helping to minimize delays and avoid complications during the approval and construction process.

Our support doesn’t stop once your plans are approved. We stay involved throughout the construction phase, working alongside your builder to answer questions and resolve any issues that may come up.

We’re here to make sure your home is built as envisioned, helping the process feel smoother and ensuring the finished result is everything you hoped for.
