The Norman is a dual occupancy project located in a quiet, leafy court in the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Ringwood.
The site features a noticeable fall from the rear toward the street frontage, along with a landscape overlay requiring the protection of neighbouring mature canopy trees. These constraints informed a sensitive and considered design response.
The client brief called for two distinct dwellings: a two-storey, street fronting home with multiple living zones for a young couple and their growing family, and a single-storey residence to the rear designed to comfortably accommodate their recently retired parents.
The material palette incorporates recycled red bricks salvaged from the original dwelling, contrasted with dark vertical metal cladding and complemented by a polished concrete-look render, creating a layered and contemporary project.
